1. What Industries do you sell to?

We serve Business to Business Industrial professionals. This includes all forms of manufacturing organizations, quality control, process control, business service industries, electronics, construction and heavy equipment, aerospace, aviation powerplant and airframe, paper and pulp, utilities, education, etc. We typically do not sell to consumer service oriented companies, because even our excellent priced products are typically beyond the justification for these operations. If you have at least $1395.00 to spend for a solution which includes a complete borescope kit with high intensity 100 watt lighting (We no longer offer Maglights, since they are inadequate for many applications)- we have some great products to offer so you are welcome to contact us.

2. Can you send us your full color catalog?

Yes. In fact you are looking at it right now. And not only is it in full color, but it is also fully interactive! We put the catalog online so that you could be charged lower prices for the products you need. It costs us less, and so it costs you less. In addition, you always have the latest information, available for viewing, printing, or searching...  all at the click of a browser button.

For those of you who like using Adobe Acrobat, we have the datasheets available also in PDF format. But take a quick look at the information here right now, online. You'll quickly find the answers to your questions. You can easily and quickly browse the datasheets to find the products you need. The best products, at certainly the lowest possible prices. You can't ask for more!

3. Why are your prices much better than other borescope companies?

Our prices are lower simply because of free market competition. We are more efficient than our competition. Our lower costs translate to lower costs for you.

We accomplish what we do with much lower overhead. Your costs are reduced even further. And, to make the prices even lower, we accept lower profit margins. This translates into tremendous savings to you.

If you want to pay for all the other prospective customers that call us to get 25 page printed color brochures mailed to them---

If you want to pay for full time live technicians to answer the phones when other prospective companies call us---

If you want to pay for a sales team to perform demonstrations all over the U.S. for other prospective companies--

then by all means, call our competitors!!

Because that is exactly what you are paying for when you buy equipment from our competitors. The borescopes cost much more because you are not just paying extra for the one brochure sent to you, you are also paying for all the brochures sent to everybody.

But if you want to pay just for the borescope, then by all means, call us!   Our borescopes will cost you must less because you are not subsidizing sales calls or demonstrations for other companies, some of whom might be your competitors.  If you want to lower your costs dramatically, and still get the same optics, order our borescopes. You'll be glad you did... but your competition won't!

4. How do I know the unit will fit my needs?

This should be the "clincher:"  you know the unit will meet your needs, because if it doesn't, you don't pay for it!

This is correct: to eliminate all uncertainty as to whether the our borescopes will perform to your exact specifications--to meet your needs exactly, we actually ship the unit to you and allow you to evaluate it. This is a NO-RISK, 100% money-back guarantee. With a 10 DAY RETURN POLICY.  If you find it does not meet your needs, it costs you nothing. There are no "restocking" fees or handling charges. You only pay for nominal shipping charges.

We do this because we are confident you will be completely satisfied- and have spoken with one of our knowledgeable Sales Engineers. Whether or not you own the company for which you are buying these borescopes, fiscal perspicacity is always good.  Our borescopes and their optics match anybody's.

In lieu of a rehearsed and expensive sales demonstration, we allow you to do a live evaluation of your actual unit.

The following is an actual customer testimonial.  As told by our Sales Manager:

"Most recently in May 1999- we were approached by a large drug manufacturer to replace a permanently damaged scope they had broken and needed to buy a replacement for. This scope was manufactured by one of the large Japanese companies sold them a few years ago. They were quoted over 3x as much as our prices by this Japanese company for a replacement scope. So we sent them a quote. Of course, they were skeptical of our lower prices, so we sent them a unit to evaluate for purchase. As expected, they agreed and immediately issued a PO and told us that there wasn't a difference between our products and the competition- not worth the additional $9,000.00 they would have had to pay!!!! This story is repeated day after day. But best of all, we saved them so much money- that the engineer became a hero with his company and got a promotion because of this cost savings."

This is a typical experience for our customers, and it is repeated time and time again. Why shouldn't this type of success be repeated at your company?

5. Do you Rent Borescopes?

We want to serve companies that are long-term oriented, forward thinking and want to invest in their quality control and inspection needs. Industry leaders, well managed companies and those committed to producing quality products and services buy and own their own capital equipment- they don't rent it just to address a crisis- they are prepared. Since our prices are the best in the industry- we feel if a customer seriously needs a borescope, they would be happy to purchase one at our affordable prices. It is understandable that you might just have a "one-time" only application, in which case you might look around and find another company that does rent them.

6. Does UXR manufacture their own borescopes?

UXR is a stocking distributor with technical sales support. We have an OEM which whom we work very closely in distributing their products. Unlike the most of the industry, UXR is not a typical Manufacturers Sales Representative company. Our competitors in the traditional establishment typically have little or no investment in inventory. They have nothing more than "borrowed" demo equipment from the manufacturer.

In contrast, we own what we sell, and we guarantee quick turnaround. In many cases, orders can be filled in one (1) day!  Compare this with the lead times quoted by the other major manufacturers. For example, for Flexible Boroscopes, you'll find lead times that are typically in the 4, 6 and even 8 week range!  That is a 60 day lead time, versus a lead time of single day from us!  The difference between one day and one or two months may not seem like much, but another way to look at this disparity is this:

We fill your order faster than Fedex can ship it to you!  By comparison, our competitors will ship your order approximately in the season after you order it.

Buy from us, you'll get what you need the next day.  Buy from them, and if you order it in the spring, you'll get it in the summer.

How can we be so much faster? Because most all of our products (except for 3 meter length scopes and our AVIS Video Imaging scopes) are typically in stock.  UXR distributes and provides all valued-added sales support, technical support and service for this product line in addition to our pre-owned nondestructive (NDT) testing equipment sales.

7. How does your 10 day "desktop" evaluation and return policy work?

Your company issues a purchase order, UXR ships the equipment to you on a COD basis. Upon arrival at your facility the clock of 10 days starts clicking. This is 10 calendar days, not 10 working days. Actually-you will probably know in the first 10 minutes whether the equipment meets and exceeds your expectations. Still, we offer a full 10 days to allow ample time for multiple tests and demonstrations for others in your company.

The is one caveat: you must evaluate the borescope in a clean desktop or office environment. The borescope or fiberscope you receive is factory new and NOT demo equipment. Most likely, you will in fact keep the borescope or fiberscope- since most customers are pleasantly surprised that the price is as low as it is for the high quality products we offer. Most customers familiar with the industry cannot believe it since they are used to paying very high prices to one of the large Japanese companies.

But in the unlikely event you decide to return the equipment, we will accept it back without any problems. provided you return it to us in NEW condition. You can return it for any reason whatsoever. You can even return it-seriously-even if you don't like it's color!

You will be issued a full refund less the shipping charges. If the equipment is returned in an obviously "used" or damaged condition, it will not be accepted for return. You must therefore be careful with the equipment during your evaluations.

8. Do you sell other types of scopes not listed here or build custom scopes?

Yes. However the catch is you must order a quantity of them.  We cannot possibly maintain our low prices unless the custom order specifies a number of units. It is possible that in rare cases if we feel that we can otherwise sell a quantity of your special order, or if we feel that the market can support a new type or model specifically for an application, then we might be able to accommodate you. So please feel free to email us to request a quotation.

But generally, if you only need one custom scope, we will not be able to assist you--at least not at the rock bottom prices for which we are known. We apologize for this, and would like to reiterate that you still might find our quote reasonable, so please email us.

Otherwise, if you carefully browse this website, chances are that we have something that will do the job for you. And, at a price far below that of a custom quotation!

9. Do you sell fiberscopes over 3 meters in length?

No, this is extremely costly and impractical from a manufacturing standpoint.

However, we now are offering 10mm diameter fully articulated video imaging scopes in standard lengths of 3, 5 and up to 10 Meters (32.5 ft.).

10. Can I use the equipment on actual hardware and perform inspections during the 10 days?

ONLY IF you intend to keep the equipment and NOT return it.  Once it is used (and we can easily determine if it has been used), it is no longer factory new and we cannot return it back to our stock and sell to another customer as new.

By the same token, you would not like to get used equipment, unless you specifically ordered it that way (We sell pre-owned NDT equipment and borescopes too!- Please don't confuse this with our NEW Borescopes cataloged on this website!) We are not in the demo or rental business, and thus, we do not allow borescopes to be used on a "hot" job for a few days and then returned.  You must evaluate the equipment in a "clean" office environment.

Our prices are the best in the industry, but if you only need a scope for a one-time application, then you should rent one from another vendor.

11. Why should I buy a Video package from UXR and not from someone else?

Because you need a solution that works perfectly right out of the box, guaranteed, because all the components are designed specifically for each other!

And, as usual with UXR, you get the best products at the lowest prices! Our OEM has designed a camera that is a year ahead of the competition. The internal Sony CCD is housed in our own enclosure, and it's lighter (and therefore balances better) than anything else on the market.  Best of all, it was designed specifically to integrate with our borescopes. We've tested all the components together so that you don't have to! We can guarantee that everything works together, perfectly, right out of the box!

12. Does your video adapter work with consumer grade camcorders or digital cameras?

No, it is not designed to fit on a camcorder or digital camera. Our focusing adapters are designed to project the image from the borescope eyepiece directly to a CCD chip within a industrial type video camera without a lens. These types of cameras have the CCD image chip located centered in a C/CS type mount that is located within exact tolerances (a fraction of an inch deep) in the mount.

There are also a number of other technical difficulties with using such consumer devices. These are engineering problems which, given enough time and effort, can be ultimately solved one way or another. But by far, the best solution--the professional solution--is to use components designed specifically to work together.

However, we can recommend one way to make use of a camcorder: use it as a recording device. Most models have RCA input jacks. You can connect our video equipment to your camcorder's external video input. Or you can use other recording devices as well, including the ones we sell and recommend. We offer many models, including some that do not require a computer. You can record up to 40 images on a single 3½" floppy diskette without tying up a PC. Call us for details!

13. I own a digital camera- can I attach it to one of your borescopes to take digital photos?

We wish it were that simple. If anyone tells you otherwise.... run fast in the other direction. Again, given enough time and effort, you can certainly engineer anything, but we have a better solution (click here).

The warning above regarding camcorders applies to digital cameras and other consumer products as well. Digital cameras are simply not designed for use with borescopes. The list of incompatibles and problems is long. Here are just a few: they do not have c-mount lenses; their autofocus mechanism interferes with all known adapters manufactured today; their light sensitivity (lux rating) is insufficient for borescope use (except for some of  the extremely recent high-end models).

Again, why not go with the easy, problem-free solution. Buy a PC Based Video capture device at your local computer store for $100.00!

14. Do you sell LCD Monitors, video cameras, and adapters separately?

No. Again, all of our components and equipment are designed to work perfectly with one another. Our video equipment integrates with our borescopes, and each system is guaranteed to work perfectly together.

We've spent a lot of time and effort in doing this, so that you don't have to!

Of course, our video equipment will very likely work with borescopes from our competitors. But we obviously cannot offer any kind of technical support in solving any difficulties you might encounter in such a situation.

15. How are Borescopes manufactured?

The process of building borescopes, endoscopes and fiberscopes is a very intense and complex process. Much of the work is done by hand and requires great dexterity in assembly. The slightest mistake will render an expensive scope completely unusable!

The many specialized materials and processes used to manufacture borescopes is out of the scope of this FAQ to explain in any detail. Suffice it to say that creating h precision miniature optics is a difficult and time-consuming process which requires very specialized skills.

16. Can you repair other manufacturers Borescopes and Fiberscopes?

Actually, most scopes when damaged in industrial use require complete disassembly and a total rebuild. We offer a trade-in program instead. Send us your damaged borescope and we will offer a 15% discount off of one of our NEW units that has equivalent specifications! In many cases, our NEW prices are lower than competitors repair charges.

17. Do you take Trade-ins?

Absolutely! This makes a great deal even better for you! You are already getting the best equipment at the lowest possible prices.. what could possibly be better, except for an even lower price!

So, trade in your useless old or broken fiberscope or rigid borescope, from any manufacturer--even if it is completely unusable--and we'll give you an additional discount from our already-rock-bottom prices!  Just ask for details.

18. We already own a borescope light source made by XXX Company, can we use it instead of buying another one from UXR?

Yes.  Just tell us what you have, and when you buy a scope from us, we will most likely be able to provide an adapter for your light source free of charge.

Our competitors will push you to buy their light source in order to make a few extra dollars.  We don't. UXR's borescopes will work on most all of the light sources from our competitors.  Some manufacturers sales representatives deliberately and knowingly mislead their customers. They tell their customers that only their own light sources will work with their borescopes. The truth is quite different. This happened to a customer who recently converted to the UXR philosophy of  "Pay Less -- Get The Best."   He was understandable quite upset; no one likes being lied to.

We sell the best equipment at the lowest prices. We take your broken trade-ins. And our borescopes will work with almost any other borescope light source. And we'll even give you the adapter free. On the other hand, we do not sell light sources separately to fit other manufacturers scopes- please call them for support.

19. What is the difference between the image and light fiber bundles?

Basically, the image bundle is the "heart" of a fiberscope. This is the most expensive component of the scope. It contains up to 30,000 individual glass fibers which are arranged perfectly in the same matrix position from one end of the long fiber bundle to the other, up to 15 feet in length.

Imagine for a moment a matrix in which you have a number of rows and columns. Each "X" and "0" shown below represents a single glass fiber. However the "0" symbols are shown to represent a rectangular object you are viewing though the borescope. If you want to carry the image (light) correctly, each "0" must be perfectly arranged in the same position in the matrix on both ends of this long fiber bundle.

NOTE: the "0" symbols are arranged in a 3 x 3 matrix

Objective end of borescope
Row 1----xxxxxxxxxx
Row 2----xxx000xxxx
Row 3----xxx000xxxx
Row 4----xxx000xxxx
Row 5----xxxxxxxxxx

Eyepiece end of borescope

Row 1----xxxxxxxxxx
Row 2----xxx000xxxx
Row 3----xxx000xxxx
Row 4----xxx000xxxx
Row 5----xxxxxxxxxx

Note that the 0 symbols remain at the same location on both ends of the bundle.

In the case of the light (or "non-coherent") bundle or bundle, the "0"'s are not arranged in any particular order but instead randomly scattered throughout the bundle. Most light bundles are just a random batch of fibers that carry light. No image is possible in this case.

Row 2----xxxxxx00xx
Row 3----xx0xxxx0xx
Row 4----xxxxx0xxxx
Row 5----x0xxxxx0xx

The other end of the "Non-Coherent" Fiber Bundle

Row 1----xxx0x0xxxx
Row 2----xxxxxxxx0x
Row 3----xxxxxxxxxx
Row 4----0xxxxxxxx0
Row 5----0xxx00xx0x

20. What is the magnification of your borescopes?

The term "magnification" is a relative since the distance of the object to the tip of the borescope must be known. This is the "working distance." Most of our standard eyepieces enlarge the image bundle 25x to your eye.

21. Can UXR come to our facility and give us a demo?

We would very much like to meet you as a customer in person. If you are in the Los Angeles area, you can visit our offices in Simi Valley. However, our business model is to keep our prices the best in the industry and on-site demonstrations would only add to the prices we need to charge for our products. In essence, you would be subsidizing not only your own demonstrations, but demonstrations to our other (potential) customers.

Instead we ship you the equipment... then you have ten (10) days to evaluate it and determine if it will do the job for you. This is also a no-pressure situation as well. We have many happy customers located worldwide that have discovered how much money they can save by buying their scopes and equipment through our risk-free, no-hassle, sales approach.

22. Can you offer a discount to us for resale?, We are an exporter/importer etc.

If you are purchasing for resale you will be quoted the same prices as an end user, our 10 Day return policy does not apply, all resale orders are COD and we do not extend technical support through your resale of our products to your customer. However, our warranty applies and is passed through of course. In other words, we discourage companies from purchasing by untrained resellers of these technical products- our distributors are already established. If you are a subcontractor purchasing agency, external tool supplier, etc. that has a purchase order contract with a large company to purchase goods on a routine basis on their behalf- please identify yourself on your initial contact with us and we provide support to you.

23. Do you sell the internal optical components such as coherent image bundles, miniature lens, mirrors, prisms, coherent optical assemblies?

No. Borescopes do not have user serviceable parts inside and we are not in the optical parts sales business. Email us if you have a question.

25. We already own a borescope we bought from someone else and it was manufactured by another company. Can you sell us a light source or light bulb for it?

While we genuinely would like to assist you, this is unprofitable for us. Please contact the original manufacturer of your borescope for support or assistance. If they tell you they cannot assist you, you probably should consider purchasing a borescope from us next time. We received a call from someone today 2/16/00 that the manufacturer told them it would be an 8 WEEK delivery for a light source AND.... over 3 weeks to receive a quote. They should have bought from us. We have stock. If you want to buy today, we quote immediately. While our light sources work perfectly with other manufacturers borescopes- they may need an adapter for the light guide cable to fit. We only provide these custom adapters for interchangability to customers that purchase our borescopes from us. Like video components, we don't sell them by themselves- only to augment our borescope sales and provide a convenience to our customers.

26. Do you provide training classes for using borescopes?

Borescopes are not complicated. While some people feel they need classes or training or certification in visual inspection- our opinion is that this is an unnecessary expense- and we target cost-conscience customers. Would you pay someone to provide training on how to use binoculars, a telescope or a microscope? We provide an operation manual with each scope that we deliver. If you have specific questions, you can call our direct customer support line for assistance! Our documents should be sufficient. However, if you purchase a large order or quantity of boroscopes from us and require training, then we can address at that time and provide support and come up with a custom program for your needs.

27. What is your minimum order amount?

For domestic sales and you have purchased a UXR product previously and need to order parts, accessories, a light bulb, etc. it is $50.00. If you are a first time customer we have a minimum order of $500.00. All export sales outside the U.S. require a minimum order of $2500.00
